Old Oak Stables,
Warfield.

A contemporary timber guest barn defined by crafted Kebony detailing
and low-energy construction.

Concept

Old Oak Stables reimagines the language of traditional agricultural buildings through a contemporary and carefully crafted architectural approach. Designed as guest accommodation within the grounds of the main house, the project replaces a deteriorating stable block with a modern and highly detailed timber structure.

The proposal balances the simplicity of rural forms with refined modern detailing, allowing the building to sit naturally within its landscaped Green Belt setting.

Spatial Strategy

The building is organised around a landscaped cobbled courtyard that strengthens the relationship between architecture and landscape. Openings are carefully positioned to frame views and reinforce a sense of enclosure and shelter.

Internal spaces are intentionally compact and efficient, creating warm and highly functional accommodation.

Material Language

Kebony timber cladding forms the primary architectural material, selected for its durability, sustainability and rich weathering characteristics. Detailing is deliberately restrained, allowing the texture and tone of the timber to define the character of the building.

Deep reveals, expressed overhangs and carefully integrated junctions reinforce the crafted quality of the project.
